Birds have that something that is a little more challenging for me as an artist than most subjects. I am a bird-lover and I guess the main reason why I am attracted to birds, besides their beauty is their happiness! Painting and photographing birds have filled many of my hours. The featured image is titled ‘Starlings’. Oil on canvas.
I admire the determination of birds in their search for food; how they patiently sit on their eggs until the young are hatched, after which they spend long periods teaching and waiting for their young to fly. They are bold in the face of danger and their nest-building abilities are time-consuming and arduous. I love the delightful songs of birds and the energy they have flitting from branch to branch. They are full of the joys of life! They love to live!
Bird watching inspires me and I am always reminded of the following biblical verse:
“Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow [seed] nor reap [the harvest] nor gather [the crops] into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27 And who of you by worrying can add one hour to [the length of] his life?” (Matt 6. 26-27 (Amplified Bible)
What I learnt from studying and painting birds:
Hard work produces best results.
Failure is part of the process.
Family comes first.
Happiness is a choice.
Lastly, but by no means least, God is my provider.
