I have a few old paintings that I never liked, so instead of throwing them in the trash, I am recycling them. Canvasses are expensive, so if one can recycle, why not? The original painting was done in oils, so I did the new image of flowers in oils as well. If I used acrylic, cracking could result. I sandpapered the old painting for a smoother and easier to work surface. The old textures added an interesting aspect to the new painting, however, this does not always work out well, as some old art could have thick impasto that will not be beneficial to your new creation. Heavy impasto textures could perhaps be recycled for abstract art.

Recycling turns things into other things. Which is like MAGIC. ~ Anonymous.

Very nice.
I share your sensibilities on this, and have been ruthless about painting out failed paintings. Of which I have many….

Great. Yes I know what you mean. I have managed to re-use most of my old stuff.
